Slate is a fine-grained metamorphic rock derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash. When shale is subjected to heat and pressure the fine partcles re-crystalise to form slate.
Slate has been used in many situations including laboratory tables, billiard table tops, electric switchboards, and as a damp proof membrane. The biggest use of slate is in the building industry. Roofs, interior and exterior floors, fireplaces, stairs, pathways, cladding etc are all areas in which slate can be found.
Eco Stone Floors stocks an extensive range of imported slate in a multitude of differnt colours and textures.
Slate is rising in popularity as one of the choices materials for natural stone flooring. For inside or outside slate is a remarkably durable and eye-catching material. It provides a tactile dimension of its own. Slate has been useful for generations and it is no doubt that this type of flooring will continue to grow in popularity for many years to come.
